- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), multi-physics simulations, and analytical calculations to support the design and optimization of instruments.
- Contribute directly to design reviews and collaborate with physicists and engineers throughout the development process.
- Deliver technical reports and communicate results clearly to project teams and scientists, both in written form and presentations.
- Occasionally represent the group in scientific conferences.
- Thermal and thermo-mechanical simulations of components exposed to high heat loads: X-ray optics, heat absorbers, temperature-controlled assemblies, etc.
- Structural and vibration analysis to ensure mechanical stability and dynamic performance: high-precision mechatronic systems, vacuum chambers, support structures, and opto-mechanical devices.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies of cooling systems.
- Higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma with 300 ECTS) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Ideally at least 3 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in a research or high-technology environment, but more junior profiles invited to apply.
- Immediate operational proficiency with Ansys for conducting thermal, thermo-mechanical, and structural and dynamic analyses.
- Willingness to undergo training to gain proficiency in CFD analysis tools if needed.
- Programming skills in Matlab or Python are necessary.
- Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, preferably SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink is considered a strong asset.
- A good understanding—or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding—of the physical phenomena relevant to synchrotron radiation facilities.
- Fluency in English, working language at the ESRF.
- Strong team spirit and the ability to work collaboratively with project engineers and instrument scientists.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present and explain your work through clear and structured technical reports.
- Autonomous, methodical, and analytical approach to problem-solving.
- Collaborate with global experts to advance science and address societal challenges
- Come and live in a vibrant city, in the heart of the Alps, and Europe's Green Capital 2022
- Enjoy a workplace designed to support your quality of life
