Company DescriptionAbout Ascenz MarorkaJoin Ascenz Marorka, a subsidiary of the GTT group, and be part of the smart shipping revolution! We develop innovative digital solutions to optimize vessel performance and reduce their environmental impact. By joining our dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale international projects, contribute to a sustainable future, and be part of a rapidly growing company. Ready to take on exciting challenges and shape the future of maritime?Job DescriptionContext and ObjectiveEnvironmental conditions, particularly air and seawater temperature, have a significant impact on marine engine performance through effects on air density, combustion efficiency, and cooling capacity. These variations are often treated in a generalized way in engine models, limiting their predictive accuracy. The objective of this internship is to refine the modeling of these effects using both physical principles and real-world operational data (autologs). The intern will analyze how temperature variations influence engine power limitations and fuel efficiency, calibrate models based on observed data, and contribute directly to the continuous improvement of our modeling library, used by our modelling engineers.Scope of Work
  • Conduct a technical and bibliographic review of existing models (e.g., ISO 3046, manufacturer data, thermal systems, engine derating).
  • Analyze autolog data from operational vessels to evaluate the real-world influence of environmental conditions.
  • Compare and calibrate physical and empirical models of engine performance.
  • Propose and validate an improved modeling approach, adaptable across ship types and operating profiles.
  • Integrate results into our internal modeling environment.
  • Deliver a proof of concept demonstrating improvements, along with a technical report for internal knowledge sharing.
Required and Expected SkillsTechnical Skills:
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
  • Comfortable with mathematics, including model formulation and analysis.
  • Ability to perform data analysis using a programming language (Python).
  • Capacity to learn new technical tools and concepts rapidly.
QualificationsSoft Skills:
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Proactive, curious, and able to work independently.
  • Clear communicator, capable of documenting and presenting technical work effectively.
  • Motivated to contribute to high-impact, real-world applications in shipping and energy efficiency.
