POWERING AEROSPACE FUTURE WITH THE NEXTGEN PROPULSION TECHNOLOGYAt HyPrSpace, our mission is clear: to make advanced propulsion technology affordable and accessible for a wide array of applications, from civilian to defense. With our pioneering hybrid rocket engine, we're introducing a new era of aerospace capabilities—more efficient, cost-effective, safer, and sustainable.Joining us :Join the adventure at HyPrSpace, where innovation, collaboration, and humor blend to create groundbreaking advancements in space propulsion. As part of the #SpaceBakers team, you’ll contribute to a unique, patented technological leap, embarking on the full lifecycle development of a launch vehicle. Immerse yourself in an environment that prioritizes a "test and learn" philosophy, ensuring your ideas not only take flight but soar.At HyPrSpace, your work directly impacts our trajectory towards success, offering rapid skill development in an iterative, hands-on approach.Enjoy competitive compensation, flexible working conditions, and equity through our BSPCE stock option plan, all within the vibrant surroundings of Bordeaux, a nexus of culture, viniculture, and coastal life!Role overview :The Fuel Block Designer is responsible for the design, development, and integration of polymer-based fuel blocks (notably PEHD) within a hybrid propulsion system. These blocks ensure alignment between performance requirements, material constraints, mechanical integration and thermal management.Your key responsibilities :Under the supervision of our Design Manager, your role will be to design and adapt the HDPE tubes which are our rocket fuel, enabling their integration in the engine structures and ensuring they have the required mechanical and thermal behavior under the service life.To reach these objectives, your main responsibilities will be :
  • Design PEHD fuel blocks according to mechanical, thermal, and functional specifications of the propulsion system
  • Analyze polymer material behavior under mechanical, thermal, and chemical stress in a space environment
  • Define mechanical interfaces between fuel blocks and the propulsion system, including the cryogenic tank, the motor case and structural supports
  • Oversee GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to ensure dimensional compliance and assembly compatibility
  • Collaborate with Propulsion, Manufacturing, and Testing departments to guarantee industrial feasibility through prototyping and sub-scale testing.
Who we are looking for:You are an associate-level mechanical engineer with 2-5 years of professional experience. You have a Master degree in mechanical engineering or material science, with initial experience in the aerospace and a specialization in polymer materials.Proficient in CAD tools (such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks) and geometrical tolerancing specification.Experience working on cross-functional engineering projects (materials, integration, propulsion, manufacturing).Beyond technical skills, you possess strong self-driving capabilities, take initiative, and can obtain compromises between diverse technical fields through innovation and dialogue.Your core qualifications, skills and mindset:
  • Knowledge in mechanical and thermal behavior of polymer materials (fatigue, creep, aging, etc.).
  • Proficiency in mechanical integration processes, especially in constrained environments (joints, fixtures, fluid interfaces).
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ISO dimensioning standards.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, to navigate the intersections of design, materials, and system constraints.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration, ensuring alignment between engineering, propulsion, materials, and production teams.
We’re a fast-paced, hands-on space startup driven by innovation, technical rigor, and a shared mission to build the next generation of propulsion systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, agile, and entrepreneurial environment, shows a strong sense of ownership, and is comfortable with ambiguity and iteration. Curiosity, adaptability, and a proactive mindset are essential to succeed and grow with us.Ready to take on this unique opportunity to join our team of 80+ passionate engineers and experts?Apply!HyPrSpace is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. Our selection process is based on competencies requirements for positions only. If you are eager to make a significant impact, come as you are, we want to hear from youAt HyPrSpace, we’re developing a hybrid rocket engine versatile enough to redefine the whole aerospace landscape.
