Orange and INRIA are collaborating through a joint laboratory and a joint team on the management of the Telco Cloud2IoT continuum. This continuum designates an infrastructure combining Telco Cloud, Edge, and IoT (gateways, devices) on which applications and services will be deployed and executed. The complexity of future services around cyber-physical systems will lead these architectures to be massively geo-distributed. Furthermore, current management solutions are heterogeneous and exist within their own verticals, and it is necessary to design management architectures that take into account this need for interoperability and openness. Finally, a digital twin-based approach, here to propose a runtime model of the Telco Cloud2IoT continuum, remains to be explored. The Thing in the Future digital twin platform (Thing'in https://www.thinginthefuture.com) developed by Orange Innovation will support this exploration.Scientific Objective - Results and Challenges to Address
The scientific objective is to contribute to the management of geo-distributed infrastructures built on the Telco Cloud2IoT continuum. This includes characterizing and describing Telco Cloud2IoT infrastructures via an ADL.The main challenges to address are:
- Defining methodologies and approaches to extract continuum characteristics.
- Defining an Architecture Description Language (ADL) at runtime.
- Conducting the modeling and synchronization mechanisms for the digital twin in Thing'in.
- Specification of an ADL: this ADL will be based on an existing ecosystem. Several options are possible; a preliminary study will be required. These include (non-exhaustive list) TOSCA (https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tc_home.php?wg_abbrev=tosca), SIMAP (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-nmop-simap-concept/), and YANG (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7950).
- Design of a model usable in Thing'in.
- Creation of the digital twin: a prototype synchronizing the Telco Cloud2IoT continuum with a digital twin managed in Thing'in. The next step will be to describe the results and the challenges to be addressed.
