Manager 1, Engineering - Query Engines CoreAs the Engineering Manager for Query Engines Core, you will lead the team responsible for building the foundation of Datadog's next-generation query engines. This team develops and evolves the core execution engine layer, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability across Datadog's core data platforms. You will drive a strategic transformation that unifies query execution capabilities across multiple data models and unlocks new product use cases.   • Lead and Manage Team: Oversee a team of engineers, providing mentorship and fostering their professional growth while ensuring high performance.
  • Advance Query Execution Engines: Drive the maturity and adoption of Datadog's DataFusion-based execution layer to deliver reliable, high-performance query execution across multiple data platforms.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Partner with product and platform teams to align on a unified query system strategy that empowers Datadog's broad data ecosystem.
  • Guide Open Source Contributions: Lead the team's impactful contributions to open-source projects such as Apache DataFusion, Arrow, and Substrait.
  • Ensure System Reliability: Own the scalability, reliability, and performance of distributed systems critical to query execution.
  • Foster Engineering Culture: Promote a culture of pragmatic problem solving, precision, and continuous improvement within the team.
Who You Are:
  • Proven Management Experience: Minimum of 2 years managing engineering teams, with a strong focus on mentoring, developing talent, and growing high-performing teams.
  • Distributed Systems Expertise: Strong technical background with experience building and maintaining distributed, high-availability systems.
  • Effective Collaborator: Skilled at working across organizational boundaries and time zones to align product and platform stakeholders.
  • Relevant Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with query engines, databases, or performance optimization is preferred but not required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with systems programming languages such as Rust; open-source contributions are a plus.
