This job offer is part of a Horizon Europe project called Marine Beacon, which focuses on the impact of bycatch on the decline of marine biodiversity. The main objective of this project is to produce knowledge and tools aimed at reducing bycatch and induced mortality of protected, threatened and endangered species (EPMD in french), mainly in European waters. The project brings together various disciplines, from marine biology to social sciences and humanities (SHS in french).
This field may involve sociology as well as management sciences. It aims to investigate the impact of different ways of communication on consumer awareness and commitment to the accidental capture of EPMDs, such as dolphins. Following the EC's request for measures to regulate the bycatch of these marine mammals, three European countries were asked to take immediate action : France, Spain and Sweden. These three countries reacted more or less actively to this request. More generally, in the face of this situation, the communication practices used by various stakeholders, and to which citizens are exposed, lead us to question their effectiveness. In this respect, the candidate's objective will be to use qualitative and quantitative methods :
  • evaluate the effectiveness of three types of communication: 1. information disseminated in the mainstream media, 2. information approved by an influencer on social media, 3. shocking communication approved by an NGO
  • carry out a cross-cultural comparison between France, Spain and Sweden, in order to determine the extent to which local contextual differences can impact not only awareness, but also attitudes and behavior towards this problem and their purchase/consumption of fish.
Tasks
Reporting to the director of the laboratory of Digital Uses for Sustainable Development (NUDD in french), you will be tasked with designing and piloting research schemes to question three forms of public awareness of bycatch data, in three countries (France, Spain, Sweden).Activities
